Source: Domestic Synthetic Fuels I, LLC Domestic Synthetic Fuels is proposing the construction of a 221-acre direct coal liquefaction (DCL) facility at the Mason County Industrial Park, approximately five miles north of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The DCL facility would yield ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel, gasoline, liquefied petroleum gases (LPGs), elemental sulfur and flake product utilizing West Virginia’s vast coal reserves. In 2017 the EIA estimated that producing mines in West Virginia could yield 1,833 million short tons of recoverable coal, encompassing 11.4% of the entire nation's reserves.
