In this webinar, Dr. Charles Chiu, Associate Director of the UCSF Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, will provide an overview of clinical and public health applications of metagenomic sequencing, including clinical sequencing for diagnosis of infections, wastewater surveillance, and outbreak investigation.
Routine metagenomic testing can be made feasible in the clinical laboratory by coupling automated biorobots with rapid computational pipelines. Here we will discuss how metagenomic sequencing was used to identify the role of adeno-associated virus type 2 infection in an nationwide outbreak of acute severe hepatitis in children and a cluster of transplant-associated infections linked to the vaccine strain of yellow fever virus.
