The Kitchener, Ontario-based company was founded in 2012 after Denomme completed his Master’s in Engineering at the University of Waterloo. The idea for Nicoya came about during Denomme’s post-secondary education where he experienced the frustration faced by researchers unable to access the most advanced technologies due to their overly expensive and complex features. Denomme understood first-hand how this lack of access directly and negatively impacted progress, providing the motivation to innovate and find a way to break down barriers between scientists and the data they needed to make their next big drug discovery. Speaking to  Technology Networks , Denomme highlights the key challenges faced when using “traditional”

Clinical Trial of Antiviral Drug To Treat Coronavirus Begins /  Inizia la sperimentazione clinica del farmaco antivirale per il trattamento del coronavirus Segnalato dal Dott. Giuseppe Cotellessa / Reported by Dr. Giuseppe Cotellessa A randomized, controlled clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the investigational antiviral remdesivir in hospitalized adults diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has begun at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha. The trial regulatory sponsor is the  National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) , part of the National Institutes of Health. This is the first clinical trial in the United States to evaluate an experimental treatment for COVID-19, the respiratory disease first detected in December 2019 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. The first trial participant is an American who was repatriated after being quarantined on the Diamond Princess cruise ship that docked in Yokoha

The scan utilises a hand-held device to find a pattern of electrical signals that are different in children on the autism spectrum, which are directly linked to differences in their brain development. The scan was tested on about 180 people with and without autism between the ages of 5 and 21 in collaboration with Yale University in the US, University College London and Great Ormond Street

Giuseppe Cotellessa /  Reported by Dr. Giuseppe Cotellessa A common wall lizard ( Podarcis muralis ), like this one captured in the wild, can harbor parasites that move across generations, from mother to baby lizards, researchers have found. / I ricercatori hanno scoperto che una lucertola comune (Podarcis muralis), come questa catturata in natura, può ospitare parassiti che si muovono attraverso le generazioni, dalla madre alle lucertole. N. FEINER/LUND UNIVERSITY The worm turns up in the mom’s ovaries and the embryo’s braincase of a common wall lizard. For Nathalie Feiner, it was just another day in the lab. As part of her work on understanding how the common wall lizard is adapting to a changing climate, the evolutionary biologist was observing one of its eggs under a microscope w

When the salmon dies, the parasite releases microscopic spores (shown), which are then eaten by worms, the creature’s other host.
