piante coltivate e oggi diverse varietà diffuse in Italia già derivano

Recently it was decided to oppose GMOs MAS technology (acronym for "Assisted Selection with Molecular markers"). The "MAS" selects very efficiently plants that bear specific characters (often resistance to diseases) as part of biodiversity generated, usually, by cross. Already used for twenty years, these techniques allow you to transfer efficiently many characters of interest in plants grown and today several varieties popular in Italy already obtained through the application of this technology. The MAS technology is a selection tool as part of a natural biodiversity or human generated, while the use of GMOs allows you to generate new biodiversity inserting new characters in the cultivated species. A significant example is the case of "Golden Rice", a transgenic varieties of rice produced by Ingo Potrykus and Peter Beyer and enriched in the endosperm of the precursor of vitamin A. The Golden Rice has been realized by modifying the rice with two genes that control the biosynthesis of beta-carotene, one transferred from daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus), the other from a soil bacterium Erwinia uredovora. This variety of rice was made possible through the use of GMOs, but it would not have been possible through the use of the MAS itself to an existing rice biodiversity there are no forms capable of producing the endosperm precursors of vitamin A.
