Perché così tanti talenti creativi sono ancora nascosti? / Why Are So Many Creative Talents Still Hidden?

Al momento sto facendo ricerche sul settore creativo e su quanto sia realmente accessibile.

Si parla molto di opportunità, ma la realtà è che migliaia di giovani non proverebbero mai ad entrare nel mondo creativo. Non perché manchino di talento, ma perché mancano di visibilità, guida, fiducia o convinzione.

• Alcuni non sanno da dove cominciare.
• Alcuni hanno avuto difficoltà accademiche e pensano che questo significhi che il settore non fa per loro.
• Alcuni sono neurodivergenti e non hanno mai prosperato nei sistemi educativi tradizionali.
• Alcuni non hanno esami GCSE, non hanno progetti universitari e hanno una bassissima autostima, ma hanno un forte istinto creativo naturale.

E questo mi fa chiedere una cosa:

Perché continuiamo a presentare il percorso "classico", la scuola, gli A-Levels, l'università, come l'unica via legittima per intraprendere una carriera creativa?

Cosa succede al giovane che ha fallito negli studi ma disegna continuamente?

Oppure quello che monta video nella sua camera da letto e pensa: "Non sono abbastanza intelligente per quel settore?"

Oppure il pensatore neurodivergente che vede il mondo in modo diverso, che spesso è il suo superpotere creativo?

La creatività è una caratteristica naturale dell'uomo. Non può essere fabbricata. Ma può essere assolutamente raffinata, guidata e coltivata.

Dati recenti evidenziano quanti giovani siano ancora esclusi dalle opportunità. I ​​dati dell'Office for National Statistics mostrano che circa 957.000 giovani di età compresa tra 16 e 24 anni nel Regno Unito sono attualmente classificati come NEET, ovvero Not in Education, Employment or Training (non impegnati in istruzione, occupazione o formazione), circa il 12,8% di quella fascia d'età. È stata recentemente avviata anche un'inchiesta parlamentare interpartitica per esaminare le cause e l'impatto a lungo termine dell'aumento dei livelli di NEET.

Questi numeri non sono solo statistiche. Rappresentano centinaia di migliaia di giovani che potrebbero non avere orientamento, accesso, supporto o percorsi visibili verso settori in cui potrebbero realmente prosperare.

Le industrie creative si fondano sull'originalità, sull'esperienza vissuta e sulla differenza. Eppure continuiamo a perdere migliaia di individui naturalmente creativi semplicemente perché il percorso non è visibile od accessibile a loro.

Forse il problema non è il talento. Forse è la traduzione.

Forse abbiamo bisogno di percorsi più chiari, più pratici e più umani per entrare nel settore, soprattutto per coloro che non si riconoscono nei tradizionali percorsi accademici.

Al momento sto raccogliendo opinioni da creativi che hanno intrapreso percorsi sia tradizionali che non convenzionali nel settore. Se siete disponibili a condividere la vostra esperienza, apprezzerei davvero il vostro contributo.

I’m currently researching the creative industry and how accessible it really is.

We talk a lot about opportunity, but the reality is that thousands of young people would never even attempt to enter the creative world. Not because they lack talent, but because they lack visibility, guidance, confidence or belief.

• Some don’t know where to start.
• Some struggled academically and assume that means the industry isn’t for them.
• Some are neurodivergent and never thrived in traditional education systems.
• Some have no GCSEs, no university plans and very low self belief, yet have strong natural creative instinct.

And that makes me question something:

Why do we still present the “classic” route, school, A Levels, university, as the only legitimate way into creative careers?

What happens to the young person who failed academically but sketches constantly?

Or the one editing videos in their bedroom who thinks, “I’m not clever enough for that industry?”

Or the neurodivergent thinker who sees the world differently, which is often their creative superpower?

Creativity is a natural human trait. It cannot be manufactured. But it can absolutely be refined, guided and nurtured.

Recent data highlights how many young people are still disconnected from opportunity. Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that approximately 957,000 young people aged 16 to 24 in the UK are currently classified as NEET, Not in Education, Employment or Training, around 12.8% of that age group. A cross party parliamentary inquiry has also recently been launched to examine the causes and long term impact of rising NEET levels.

These numbers are not just statistics. They represent hundreds of thousands of young people who may lack direction, access, support or visible pathways into industries where they could genuinely thrive.

The creative industries are built on originality, lived experience and difference. Yet we still lose thousands of naturally creative individuals simply because the pathway is not visible or accessible to them.

Maybe the issue is not talent. Maybe it's translation.

Maybe we need clearer, more practical, more human pathways into the industry, especially for those who do not see themselves reflected in traditional academic routes.
