Forum Sistema Salute 2026: Key Figures in Italian Healthcare Gather in Florence to Shape the Future of the National Health Service (SSN)

The 11th edition of the forum, organized by Koncept, will take place on October 28–29 at Manifattura Tabacchi. Institutional leaders, top healthcare officials, experts, and cultural figures will come together to discuss innovation, sustainability, artificial intelligence, and the right to healthcare.

What future awaits the National Health Service (SSN) following the investment phase of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR)? How can sustainability, innovation, and equitable access to care be ensured? And what role will individuals play in a healthcare system increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence? These are some of the core questions to be addressed at the 11th edition of the *Forum Sistema Salute* (Health System Forum), organized by Koncept and scheduled for October 28–29, 2026, at Manifattura Tabacchi in Florence. Under the theme "A Construction Site for the Present," the Forum will bring together representatives from the national government and the regions, leaders of healthcare organizations, professionals, the scientific community, businesses, patient associations, and citizens. Over the course of two days, the event will explore major healthcare policy issues while also dedicating space to culture, civic participation, and concrete projects aimed at improving the patient experience.

On Wednesday, October 28, Domenico Iannacone will meet with Father Guidalberto Bormolini—a monk and anthropologist—to reflect on human fragility and the value of standing alongside those who are suffering. The journalist and television creator will also headline a session titled "Take Care of Me" (*Prenditi cura di me*), an exploration conveyed through words, images, and personal testimonies.

Following this, art historian and Rector of the University for Foreigners of Siena, Tomaso Montanari, will engage in a dialogue with Luca Telese on the question: "Will artificial intelligence make us freer or more dependent?"—examining the implications of technology for freedom of thought and individual autonomy.

From the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) to Service Delivery: The Challenge of Local Healthcare

On Thursday, October 29, a plenary session titled "Ministerial Decree 77 (DM 77): From Infrastructure to Governance Capacity" will bring together figures including Giuseppe Quintavalle (President of FIASO), Alessandro Rossi (President of SIMG), and representatives from various healthcare professions. The program will also address waiting lists, disease prevention, oncology, chronic conditions, therapeutic innovation, and continuity of care, with a particular focus on individual needs and the effectiveness of organizational models.

Patients and citizens at the heart of change

Alongside institutional discussions, the Forum will feature participatory initiatives open to the general public.

The "RareWorldCafè," organized in collaboration with UNIAMO, will bring together patient associations, professionals, and institutions to develop concrete proposals for the future of rare diseases. Also on October 28, the sixth edition of the Rare Diseases Award will take place, judged by a panel composed entirely of representatives from patient associations.

On October 29, the "Mission: Superheroes" (Missione Supereroi) initiative will invite young creatives to collaborate on the design of five characters intended to bring imagination, courage, and smiles to children in hospitals.

Rounding out the program are sessions dedicated to women's health, migraine, "invisible" pain, disease prevention, and the culture of organ and tissue donation.

The "Sistema Salute" (Health System) Forum thus reaffirms its role as an event where the debate on healthcare policy meets the lived experience of individuals—with the ultimate goal of transforming ideas, investments, and innovations into tangible solutions for health-related needs.
